Michel Foucault  vs  Jia Tolentino

Foucault described the panopticon — a prison shaped so the prisoner can never tell whether he is being watched, and so polices himself permanently. Tolentino's Trick Mirror argues that the platforms have built the panopticon at scale, and we have populated it voluntarily, performing the watched self into existence.
