M U L L A duel of ideas

What the morning teaches without lessons

Wendell Berry  vs  Annie Dillard

Berry walks his land at dawn and writes back what the land showed him. Dillard sits by the creek and reports the heron, the muskrat, the stones. Both refuse to extract a 'lesson' from the morning. Both insist the morning is the lesson, attended to without a frame.

Describe one thing from this morning that has nothing to teach you — and pay it attention anyway.

Whose side are you on?
